25 Best Unisex Perfumes 2026 — A WORKING Perfumer’s
By Kershen Teo, Founder & Perfumer, Prosody London
Unisex perfume is where the most honest perfumery is happening right now. Not because gender-neutral is a trend — but because removing the “for him” or “for her” brief forces perfumers to justify every material on its own terms. The best unisex perfumes don’t compromise. They’re built around raw materials that are simply compelling on skin: oud, vetiver, sandalwood, resins, bold florals — balanced so no single note dominates.
I’m Kershen Teo, founder and perfumer at Prosody London. I work exclusively with botanical ingredients — resins, absolutes, essential oils, organic alcohol. That gives me a particular lens when I test a niche release: I’m thinking about what’s in it as much as how it smells. This list reflects that. Twenty niche and luxury picks I genuinely respect, and five from my own natural unisex perfume collection — held to the same standard.

FAQ
What makes a unisex perfume worth wearing
The question isn’t whether a fragrance is marketed as unisex — it’s whether it actually works across different skin chemistries and personal styles. After years of formulating botanical fragrances and testing hundreds of niche releases, here’s what I look for.
Balance, not blandness. The worst unisex perfumes strip out anything interesting to avoid offending anyone. The best ones are genuinely complex — they use bold materials (oud, leather, heavy florals, tobacco) but balance them so no single note dominates. The hardest unisex brief I ever set myself was Berry Blitz — making botanical raspberry and blackcurrant smell vivid without reading as sweet or young. Patchouli was the anchor. That kind of material decision is what separates a genuinely unisex fragrance from one that’s simply been stripped of gender signifiers.
Longevity without synthetic shortcuts. Many mainstream fragrances achieve their sillage through synthetic musks and fixatives. Those ingredients work — but they carry health and environmental concerns I’m not willing to accept in my own formulations (more on this below). True longevity comes from resinous base notes, quality raw materials, and concentration.
Originality. A unisex scent should smell like itself, not like a category. If you can immediately place it as “a woody scent” or “a floral scent,” the perfumer hasn’t pushed hard enough. The fragrances I respect most — and the ones I try to make — resist easy categorisation.
How to choose a unisex perfume — a perfumer’s guide
Choosing a unisex fragrance is different from choosing a gendered one. You’re not navigating “masculine” or “feminine” signifiers — you’re navigating raw material families. Here’s how I’d approach it.
Identify your base preference first. Woody, resinous, floral, or fresh — your base is what you’ll smell all day. Top notes are the first impression; the base is the relationship. Vetiver and sandalwood bases (Lantern Reed, Le Labo Santal 33) wear differently to amber and vanilla bases (Xerjoff Naxos, Santal Foy).
Consider the season. Resinous and gourmand unisex perfumes (Montale Intense Cafe, Mocha Muscari) are built for autumn and winter skin — the warmth amplifies them. Citrus-woody and floral-herbal compositions (Heeley Cardinal, A Capella Ray) perform better in warmer months when skin is warmer and projection is higher.
Sample before you commit. Unisex fragrances vary more on skin than gendered ones precisely because they’re not calibrated to a specific demographic. What reads as woody and grounded on one person reads as sharp on another. Our natural perfume sample set is the right starting point if you’re new to natural unisex perfumery.
If longevity matters, check the base notes. Resinous bases (amber, oud, patchouli) last longest. Citrus tops evaporate fastest. A fragrance with a resinous base and a citrus top — like Lantern Reed — gives you the best of both: an interesting opening and genuine staying power.

Top niche and luxury unisex perfumes 2026
These twenty fragrances represent the range of what unisex perfumery looks like at the top of the market — from niche perfume houses built on ingredient obsession to luxury brands that have repositioned their best work as gender-neutral. Where I have reservations about specific ingredients — Iso E Super, synthetic musks — I’ve said so. That’s not a reason to exclude them. The perfumery itself earns their place.
Best for instant confidence
Notes
Pineapple, Bergamot, Black Currant, Birch, Musk
Description
Creed Aventus is the fragrance that turned the commercial case for unisex perfumery. The birch smoke is the structural decision that makes it work — it’s the note that stops the fruity opening (pineapple, black currant) from reading feminine, and stops the musk base from reading conventionally masculine. Technically, it’s a study in how a single material can rebalance an entire composition. My reservation: the synthetic musks used to achieve its legendary longevity are among the most environmentally persistent in the category. That’s the trade-off.
Best floral-woody balance
Notes
Jasmine, Sandalwood, Amber, Rosemary
Description
Amouage works at a level of ingredient quality that makes most niche houses look timid. Reflection Man uses jasmine in the way jasmine should be used — not as a soft floral but as a structural material. The rosemary keeps it from becoming too creamy. For anyone exploring natural perfume for women or men who want a floral-woody that doesn’t compromise on complexity, this is the reference point.
Best cult classic
Notes
Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Leather, Cardamom
Description
Le Labo Santal 33 became a cultural shorthand for a certain kind of unisex fragrance — woody, skin-close, slightly smoky — and it earned that status. The cardamom is the detail most people miss: it’s what gives the dry-down its warmth without sweetness. Contains Iso E Super (OTNE), which is worth knowing if you have sensitive skin. For a natural alternative that uses real sandalwood as the structural base rather than a synthetic approximation, see Santal Foy below.
Best for the unconventional wearer
ACNE STUDIOS PAR FRÉDÉRIC MALLE
Notes: Aldehydes, Rose, Peach, Violet, Orange Blossom, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Frankincense, Musk
Frédéric Malle commissions rather than creates, and his 2024 collaboration with Swedish fashion house Acne Studios is one of his most interesting recent decisions. Perfumer Suzy Le Helley was asked to translate Acne Studios’ ethos into scent — the result is a large amount of aldehydes, rose, violet and orange blossom, with accords of vanilla and peach over generous sandalwood and a touch of frankincense. The aldehydes are the structural choice that makes this unconventional — they give it a neoclassical quality that references the golden era of perfumery without being nostalgic. Bold and chic simultaneously. A caveat from an ingredient perspective: the formulation contains several listed fragrance allergens including coumarin, eugenol, and limonene — worth knowing if you have sensitive skin. Frederic Malle
Best for autumn and winter evenings
Notes
Honey, Tobacco, Lavender, Tonka Bean
Description
Xerjoff Naxos is the fragrance I’d recommend to anyone who thinks they don’t like gourmand scents. The honey and tobacco combination reads as sophisticated rather than sweet because the lavender keeps it from becoming cloying. Tonka bean base is long-lasting and skin-warm. Ideal for cooler months — the kind of fragrance that improves as an evening progresses.
Best statement luxury scent
Notes
Plum, Jasmine, Amber, Sandalwood
Description
Clive Christian operates at the top of the luxury market and prices accordingly. X earns its place here because the plum-jasmine opening is genuinely well-resolved — the transition to sandalwood and amber is seamless in a way that takes real skill. For those interested in understanding how botanical materials compare at this level, see our notes on what’s actually in your fragrance below.
Best floral oud combination
BODICEA THE VICTORIOUS BLUE SAPPHIRE
Notes
Rose, Jasmine, Oud, Amber
Description
A harmonious blend of rich florals and earthy oud. The rose and jasmine opening is vibrant without being sharp, and the oud base is handled with restraint — present but not dominant. For those who find straight oud fragrances too intense, this is an accessible entry point into oud-forward unisex perfumery. See also our guide to the best niche perfumes for women for more floral-oud recommendations.
Best sacred and citrus pairing
Notes
Grapefruit, Cedar, Frankincense, Musk
Description
Heeley Cardinal is a refreshing yet warm fragrance, blending grapefruit and cedar with the sacred, incense-like quality of frankincense. This combination creates a fragrance that is both fresh and warm, a perfect balance of citrus and wood. The addition of musk adds depth and complexity, allowing the fragrance to linger longer on the skin. Cardinal is a versatile fragrance that works well for both men and women, and its fresh yet earthy composition makes it suitable for both day and night wear.
Best for comfort and nostalgia
FLORAIKU I AM COMING HOME
Notes
Rice, Almond, Jasmine, Vanilla
Description
Floraiku I Am Coming Home is a comforting and warm fragrance that feels like a soft embrace. The scent opens with rice and almond, which provide a creamy, nutty base. Jasmine adds a delicate floral note, while vanilla gives it a sweet, warm finish. The combination of these notes creates a nostalgic, inviting fragrance that is perfect for those who enjoy soft, comforting scents. It’s a fragrance that feels cozy and intimate, making it a great choice for evenings at home or casual outings
Best fresh floral with staying power
Notes
Citrus, Rose, Jasmine, Amber
Description
Grosmith Shem El Nessim is a citrus-forward fragrance that balances the brightness of bergamot and lemon with the floral richness of rose and jasmine. The combination of fresh, zesty citrus and soft florals creates a fragrance that is both energizing and uplifting. The amber adds a warm, creamy base, ensuring that the fragrance has both depth and lasting power. It’s a great option for those who enjoy fresh, floral fragrances with a slightly more complex and sophisticated finish.

Best gourmand daytime scent
Notes: Ambrette Seed, Tonka Absolute, Vanilla Bourbon, Cedarwood
Aerin is primarily known for light, travel-inspired florals — Ambrette de Noir is the outlier in the collection, and the most interesting fragrance they make. The structural material is ambrette seed, which produces a skin-like, musky warmth without the environmental and health concerns of synthetic musks. As the natural musk I use across my own formulations, I have particular respect for what it can do — and here it’s handled with genuine confidence, anchored by tonka absolute and vanilla bourbon, kept from becoming sweet by the cedarwood base. Bold, alluring, and one of the few mainstream fragrances where the longevity comes from ingredient quality rather than synthetic fixatives.
Best creamy woody everyday wear
BDK PARFUMS GRIS CHARNEL
Notes
Fig, Almond, Sandalwood, Tonka Bean
Description
Gris Charnel by BDK Parfums is a wonderfully soft and woody fragrance with the richness of fig and almond. The fig adds a creamy sweetness, while sandalwood and tonka bean provide a smooth, warm finish. The fragrance is slightly nutty, with a subtle sweetness that makes it feel cozy and comforting. Gris Charnel is a versatile scent that works well in both warm and cool weather, making it an ideal unisex fragrance for almost any occasion. Its creamy, woody depth is complemented by the subtle sweetness of the almond and tonka bean.
Best understated elegance
EIGHT & BOB ORIGINAL
Notes
Lemon, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Amber
Description
The lemon-vetiver combination is a classic of unisex perfumery for good reason — the citrus freshness and the earthy, smoky quality of vetiver create a tension that makes the fragrance interesting across its entire development. Amber adds warmth to the dry-down. Subtle enough for professional environments, complex enough to reward attention. See our guide to long-lasting niche perfumes for more options in this register.
Best fruity floral for any gender
EX NIHILO FLEUR NARCOTIQUE
Notes
Lychee, Jasmine, Peony, Musk
Description
Fleur Narcotique by Ex Nihilo is a delicate, fruity-floral fragrance that is both refreshing and sensual. The sweet, exotic lychee combines with the fresh, floral jasmine and peony to create an intoxicating, airy opening. As the fragrance evolves, musk adds a sensual depth that keeps the composition grounded, creating an elegant and versatile scent. Fleur Narcotique is a great choice for those who enjoy feminine floral notes with a fresh twist, yet it remains wearable for both men and women, offering balance between sweetness and sensuality.
Best for the outdoors lover
Notes
Leather, Green Notes, Juniper Berries, Tonka Bean, Amber
Description
Memo Paris Irish Leather is an aromatic and green fragrance that evokes the rugged beauty of the Irish countryside. The fresh, vibrant green notes are paired with juniper berries, creating a crisp and invigorating top. As the fragrance develops, the leather note becomes more prominent, adding a smoky, sophisticated edge. Tonka bean and amber provide warmth and depth, making this fragrance rich and long-lasting. The combination of fresh, green elements with deep, woody undertones makes it a perfect unisex scent that is ideal for those who enjoy both freshness and complexity.
Best modern take on rose
FRANCIS KURKDJIAN L’HOMME À LA ROSE
Notes
Grapefruit, Amber Woods, Musk, Rose
Description
Francis Kurkdjian is one of the few perfumers working at commercial scale who consistently makes interesting decisions. The grapefruit-rose combination here challenges the assumption that rose is inherently feminine — the amber woods reframe it as a structural material rather than a romantic signifier. A genuinely important fragrance in the context of unisex perfumery.
Best crowd-pleasing signature scent
PARFUMS DE MARLY LAYTON
Notes
Apple, Lavender, Geranium, Vanilla, Patchouli, Musk
Description
Parfums de Marly Layton is the fragrance I’d recommend to someone buying their first serious unisex perfume. The apple-lavender opening is accessible without being simple, and the patchouli-vanilla base gives it genuine depth. Geranium is the detail that makes it interesting — a slightly green, slightly rosy note that bridges the fresh opening and the warm base. Reliable, well-made, and genuinely unisex in the way it wears.
Best gourmand for cooler weather
Notes
Rose, Coffee, Vanilla, White Musk
Description
Montale handles the coffee-rose combination with more sophistication than the notes suggest. The rose stops it from being a straight gourmand; the coffee stops it from being a straight floral. White musk gives it a soft finish. This is a winter fragrance that works equally well on any skin — one of the strongest cases for gourmand as a genuinely unisex category.
Best luxurious layered floral
SERGE LUTENS LA DOMPTEUSE ENCAGÉE
Notes
Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Honey, Almond
Description
Serge Lutens has been making the case for complex florals as unisex territory for decades. La Dompteuse Encagée uses honey as a structural device — it connects the orange blossom and jasmine to the almond base in a way that feels organic rather than assembled. A fragrance for those who understand what layered means in perfumery terms.
Best regal and ceremonial scent
Notes: Saffron, Raspberry, Pink Pepper, Cashmeran, Rose, Violet, Mahonial, Roasted Tonka Beans, Vanilla, Amber, Cypriol
Thameen is one of the few genuinely British niche houses working at a level of narrative ambition that makes a fragrance memorable beyond its notes. Constellation Diamond, their newest Treasure Collection release created by perfumer Jordi Fernández, takes its inspiration from the 813-carat Constellation diamond discovered in Botswana in 2015 — the largest gem-quality rough diamond of the modern era. The brief translates intelligently into scent: saffron and pink pepper give the opening brightness and heat simultaneously, while the rose-violet-cashmeran heart creates a soft luminosity that earns the diamond reference without being obvious about it. Roasted tonka and cypriol in the base provide depth and longevity. Ceremonial without being heavy — the kind of fragrance that commands a room at extrait concentration without announcing itself loudly. A technical note: the formulation uses Mahonial and Cashmeran as synthetic woody-musky materials, which is worth knowing if you’re researching ingredient transparency.
Best for oud lovers who want subtlety
FRAGRANCE DU BOIS OUD JAUNE INTENSE
Notes: Oud, Rose, Saffron, Patchouli, Musk, Sandalwood
The saffron-rose combination is the key to this fragrance — it gives the oud a floral sweetness that makes it accessible without diluting its depth. Patchouli and sandalwood create a base that extends beautifully. For a natural alternative to oud-forward fragrances, see our notes on botanical base materials.
Best newcomer of 2025
Notes: Spices, Saffron, Blonde Woods
Safran Secret debuted in 2025 as part of Maison Crivelli’s Collection des Mystères Olfactifs. The saffron heart is handled with genuine restraint — saffron can easily dominate a composition, but here it’s balanced by the blonde woods base, which gives it warmth and longevity without weight. The metallic-warm quality that reviewers note is the saffron interacting with the wood accord. A memorable new addition to the unisex category.
Best for a romantic evening
GOUTAL PARIS – TENUE DE SOIRÉE
Notes: Pear, Orange Blossom, Rose, Vanilla, Amber, Musk
Goutal Paris handles the transition from bright (pear, orange blossom) to warm (vanilla, amber) with characteristic elegance. The rose heart is structural rather than decorative — it’s the bridge that makes the transition coherent. Musk gives it a lingering finish. A genuinely romantic evening fragrance that works across genders.
Best meditative and spiritual scent
Notes: Frankincense, Myrrh, Amber, Violet, Musk
Perfumer H is one of London’s most serious independent fragrance houses, and Incense Water is their most considered unisex work. The frankincense-myrrh combination has deep historical roots — both materials appear in ancient perfumery traditions across cultures, including in Indian devotional contexts where resinous incense has been used for centuries. The violet heart softens the composition and stops it from becoming purely meditative. For those drawn to the spiritual dimension of scent, see our piece on scent ingredients for abundance and wellbeing.
Best Natural Unisex Perfumes: Prosody London Collection
These are my own fragrances. I’ll be direct about that — but I’ll also be direct about what I set out to achieve with each one, and where I think they sit honestly against the niche picks above.
All Prosody London fragrances are composed in London from 100% botanical ingredients: organic alcohol, pure essential oils, and botanical absolutes, sourced to IFRA and Soil Association standards. No synthetic musks, no petrochemical derivatives, no phthalates. The constraint isn’t a marketing position — it’s how I work.
Every fragrance below is available individually or as part of our natural perfume sample set. I’d recommend starting there if you’re new to natural perfumery — skin chemistry varies considerably, and sampling before committing to a full bottle is always the right approach.
Lantern Reed — Best citrus-woody natural unisex
Notes: Bergamot, Neroli, Vetiver, Cedarwood, Amber
Bergamot and neroli give Lantern Reed a sun-warmed opening — bright without being sharp. As it settles, vetiver and cedarwood introduce an earthy, woody grounding that makes this feel complete rather than simply fresh. The amber base adds warmth and extends the longevity considerably for a natural fragrance. Works across seasons and occasions. One of our most consistently loved scents — and frequently chosen by both men and women who want something citrus-forward but not ephemeral.
Why it’s different from mainstream citrus scents: most commercial citrus fragrances achieve their staying power through synthetic fixatives. Lantern Reed achieves it through the natural tenacity of vetiver and cedarwood — materials with genuine depth rather than chemical longevity.

A Capella Ray — Best floral-herbal natural unisex
Notes: Lavender, Orange Blossom, Lemon Verbena, Jasmine, Sandalwood
Lavender is one of the most misused materials in mainstream perfumery — reduced to a “relaxing” cliché. In A Capella Ray, it behaves as it should: herbal, slightly sharp, deeply pleasant in combination with lemon verbena and orange blossom. The jasmine-sandalwood heart is creamy and grounding. The result is a fragrance that feels effortlessly British without being fusty. Excellent for everyday wear and genuinely versatile across genders.
Notes: Lavender, Orange Blossom, Lemon Verbena, Jasmine, Sandalwood
Description: A Capella Ray is an uplifting floral fragrance with the vibrant brightness of citrus and the soothing, herbaceous quality of lavender. The opening is a burst of fresh citrus, with hints of lemon verbena and orange blossom, which give it a lively, energizing feel. As the fragrance develops, jasmine and sandalwood add a creamy, floral depth, making it both invigorating and calming. This fragrance is perfect for those who enjoy unisex florals that have both brightness and a smooth, almost creamy finish.
Why It’s Special: A Capella Ray is perfect for anyone who appreciates floral fragrances with a twist—it’s not overly sweet but instead features complex citrus and herbal notes that balance out the florals beautifully. Its versatility makes it ideal for day-to-night wear.

Mocha Muscari — Best gourmand natural unisex
Notes: Coffee, Muscari, Amber, Leather, Sandalwood
Our most unusual natural fragrance, and for many customers, the most compelling one. Freshly brewed coffee is the opening — rich and aromatic — but it’s balanced by the unexpected floral note of muscari (grape hyacinth), which gives it a fresh, almost spring-like quality underneath the warmth. The leather-sandalwood base is sophisticated and long-lasting. This fragrance challenges the idea that natural perfumery has to be light or simple.

Santal Foy — Best creamy woody natural unisex
Notes: Sandalwood, Vanilla, Musk, Cedarwood, Amber
Sandalwood is one of the materials where natural and synthetic differ most noticeably — real sandalwood has a creaminess and depth that synthetic versions approximate but don’t match. Santal Foy is built around that difference. The vanilla adds warmth without sweetness, the cedarwood keeps it grounded, and the natural musk (derived from ambrette seed — see our note on synthetic musk concerns below) provides a skin-like quality that makes this feel genuinely intimate. The fragrance we most often recommend to customers switching from synthetic to natural perfumery.

Berry Blitz — Best fruity-fresh natural unisex
Notes: Raspberry, Blackcurrant, Rose, Musk, Patchouli
Berry Blitz is the fragrance I made for people who think they don’t like fruity scents. The raspberry and blackcurrant are vivid and genuinely juicy — but the patchouli underneath stops it reading as sweet or young. That combination is harder to pull off with natural ingredients than it sounds: synthetic fruity notes are easy to anchor; botanical ones need more careful balancing. The rose heart bridges the gap between the bright top and the earthy base, and the natural musk gives it a skin-like warmth that makes it feel intimate rather than loud. Playful on the surface, more considered underneath.

What’s actually in your unisex fragrance {#ingredients}
The 25 niche and luxury fragrances listed above represent genuine craft. But as interest in what goes into fragrances grows, it’s worth understanding the ingredients that appear even in expensive, well-regarded scents — and what the alternatives look like. For a deeper dive, see our full guide to hidden chemicals in perfume.
Synthetic musks: the longevity trade-off
Synthetic musks (including Galaxolide, Tonalide, Musk Ketone, and Musk Xylene) are used in the vast majority of commercial and niche fragrances to extend longevity and fix other notes to the skin. They work — but the science around them is increasingly difficult to ignore.
A 2025 review in the Journal of Chemical Health Risks found that Galaxolide, Tonalide, and Musk Ketone have been detected in wastewater and surface water globally, with low-level exposure shown to alter reproductive behaviour in aquatic animals. A separate critical review in Environmental Science and Technology identified dermal contact from personal care products as the dominant human exposure pathway for synthetic musks — accounting for 82–93% of total daily intake — with particular risks noted for pregnant women and infants.
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has designated Musk Xylene a substance of very high concern. Both Musk Xylene and Musk Ketone have been detected in human breast milk samples in multiple independent studies. See our full piece on endocrine disruptors in perfume for more detail.
The natural alternative I use: ambrette seed absolute provides a genuinely skin-like, musky quality without any of these concerns. It’s what I use in Santal Foy, Berry Blitz, and across the Prosody London range.
Iso E Super (OTNE): the amplifier
Iso E Super is widely used in niche perfumery — including several fragrances on this list — to create a warm, woody “skin scent” effect. Under EU CLP classification it’s a listed skin sensitiser (H317), and the European Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety has recommended it for inclusion in updated fragrance allergen labelling requirements.
If you have sensitive skin or have ever noticed a fragrance causing irritation you couldn’t explain, Iso E Super is worth investigating. Our fragrances contain none. See our piece Is Iso E Super safe? for the full picture.
Petrochemical-derived ingredients
A 2018 NOAA study published in Science found that VOCs from petrochemical-based scented products generate roughly the same volume of atmospheric pollution as burning petroleum for fuel. A 2025 report by Breast Cancer Prevention Partners found that every one of 25 tested fragranced consumer products emitted VOCs classified as toxic or hazardous under federal law.
This doesn’t mean every fragrance is dangerous — but it does mean that understanding what’s in your fragrance matters. All Prosody London fragrances are fully transparent about ingredients and certified free from synthetic additives. See our full natural versus synthetic perfume guide for how the two approaches compare.
Frequently asked questions — unisex perfume {#faq}
What makes a unisex perfume actually unisex?
Not marketing — chemistry. A genuinely unisex fragrance balances materials that read as neither conventionally masculine nor feminine: woody notes that aren’t aggressive, florals that aren’t soft, spice that adds warmth rather than gender coding. The best unisex fragrances are simply interesting on skin, regardless of who’s wearing them.
Are unisex perfumes more versatile?
Yes — and more than just occasion-versatile. Because they’re formulated to work across a wider range of skin chemistries, they tend to perform more consistently. They’re also better for layering. A woody unisex base like Santal Foy pairs well with a citrus-forward scent like Lantern Reed for a personalised combination.
Do natural unisex perfumes last as long as synthetic ones?
Honestly, natural fragrances typically have a shorter projection radius than synthetics — but they evolve more interestingly on skin and wear closer to the body, which many people prefer. The longevity gap is narrower than it used to be as natural perfumers have developed better techniques for anchoring botanical notes. Our long-lasting natural perfumes guide covers this in detail.
Which synthetic ingredients should I look out for?
Phthalates (used as fixatives), synthetic musks (Galaxolide, Musk Ketone, Musk Xylene), and Iso E Super (OTNE) are the main ones to research if you have health or environmental concerns. None of these appear in Prosody London fragrances.
How do I find the right unisex fragrance without buying blind?
Try before you commit. Our natural perfume sample set contains a curated selection of our unisex fragrances in travel sizes — the most practical way to understand how a natural fragrance performs on your specific skin chemistry before investing in a full bottle.
Can unisex fragrances be layered?
Yes, and this is one of their underused advantages. Because they’re balanced compositions, unisex fragrances tend to layer more cleanly than gender-specific ones. A woody unisex base like Santal Foy pairs well with a citrus-forward scent like Lantern Reed for a personalised combination.
What’s the difference between a niche and a natural unisex perfume?
Niche refers to the distribution model — fragrances sold through specialist retailers rather than mass-market channels, typically at higher price points with greater emphasis on raw material quality and originality. Natural refers to ingredients — fragrances made exclusively from botanical sources without synthetic additives. A fragrance can be both (as Prosody London’s are), one, or neither.
Is unisex perfume suitable for the office?
Yes — unisex fragrances are often better choices for professional environments than strongly gendered ones precisely because they’re calibrated not to project aggressively. Skin-close unisex fragrances like A Capella Ray or Le Labo Santal 33 work particularly well. See our piece on whether it’s impolite to wear perfume at the office for more on fragrance etiquette.Niche refers to the distribution model — fragrances sold through specialist retailers rather than mass-market channels, typically at higher price points with greater emphasis on raw material quality and originality.
