What Is Lime?

Lime oil comes from the peel of small green limes, Citrus aurantiifolia. Pressed lime keeps the juicy, fruity character of fresh zest, while distilled lime is softer and sweeter, closer to the scent of a lime sweet. Both are used in fine fragrance.

What Does Lime Smell Like?

Here is how strongly each facet of lime comes through, from our own smelling-strip notes.

Tangy

Mouth-puckering sharpness, full of energy.

Green

A leafy, unripe greenness that sets it apart from lemon.

Juicy

Fresh, wet fruitiness.

Sweet

A soft, almost candied note in the background.

How Perfumers Use Lime

Perfumers reach for lime when they want a fragrance to feel vibrant and modern. It sharpens florals, freshens woods and gives aquatic and tropical blends their sparkle. Like all citrus, it fades quickly, so it is always supported by a heart and base.

Why lime feels so energising

Lime’s sharp, green character reads as instantly fresh, which is why it features in so many summer scents. It is one of the most popular openings in our natural colognes, appearing in seven of them.
