How Perfumers Use Oakmoss

Perfumers use oakmoss to give depth, a natural earthiness and staying power. It pairs with bergamot, labdanum and patchouli in chypres, and with lavender in fougères.

The heart of the chypre

The chypre family is built on a contrast of bright bergamot and dark oakmoss, usually with labdanum. It is named after Cyprus, where the original accord was said to come from.
